LOCAL martial artists have returned home from a successful showing at the Universal Aloha Spirit martial arts seminar in Las Vegas.
The Barbados Kempo karate team, led by Everton Hinds, an assistant professor eighth degree, attended the seminar that was hosted by Martin Buell, a grandmaster and 11th degree black belt.
Barbadians Anderson Beckles, 42, and Calvin Ifill, 35, were tested and promoted to the ranks of assistant chief instructor fourth degree and senior chief instructor seventh degree black belt, respectively.
Seminar participants numbered approximately 325 members, with six of them being Barbadians.
There were also participants from Hawaii, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Texas, Virginia, Tennessee and Washington.
The seminar allowed all participants to share their knowledge, cultures, strategies, skills and ideas in the martial arts.   They also witnessed a rare event, which was the advancement of 13 of the top Universal Kempo karate leaders to the rank of professor ninth degree.
The trip to Las Vagas was made with the assistance from Port St Charles, Surfside Restaurant and Bar, Dr Andrew Cadogan, Dr Bromley Simon, Dr Yusuf Nagdee, Esline Johnson, RB’s Foundation and Naeem Patel. (PR)
