Second Anglican congress is here
The week-long second Congress of the Anglican Church in the Province of the West Indies will take place in Barbados from Sunday until August 18.
The first congress was held in Jamaica in 2000.
The theme for the congress is Challenges Facing Caribbean Families with the opening service at St Peter’s Parish Church on Sunday and the closing service at St Mary’s Church on August 18 at 5 p.m.
The main opening address at the business session will be given on Monday by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart at 10:30 a.m. in the Roy Marshall Teaching Complex at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill Campus, St Michael.

Tuesday – Tenets Of Anglicanism – Drexel Gomez, retired Archbishop of the West Indies at 3 p.m.
Wednesday – The Impact Of The Economic Crisis On Caribbean Families –?Dr Justin Robinson and Dr Donley Carrington, at 10 a.m.
Thursday – The Impact Of Crime And Violence On Caribbean Families – Professor Anthony Harriott, director of the Institute UWI, Mona, at 10 a.m.
Friday – Promoting Healthy Lifestyles In Caribbean Families – Professor Trevor Hassell at 10 a.m.
Deaths
It is with regret that we learnt of the death of Fr Theodore Taylor of the Roman Catholic Church, last Friday. He spent his priestly life working in Barbados and Grenada. This column expresses its deepest sympathy to members of the Roman Catholic Church.
We also express sympathy to Dean Frank Marshall at the passing of his sister Monica Marshall-Wilkinson.
Anniversary service
The Moravian Church celebrates with the Rev. Dr Alvin Barker as he marks the 50th anniversary of his ordination at Sharon Moravian Church, Jackson, St Thomas on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Love Feast
The Fulnec Moravian Church, Watts Village, St George will be holding its annual Love Feast Service on Sunday at 8 a.m. The host pastor is the Rev. Andrew Roberts.
Patronal Festival
The St Cyprian Church will be holding its Patronal Festival from September 8 to 15. Speakers include the Rev. David Yarde, the Rev. Fequel LaPlante, the Rev. Susanne Ellis, the Rev. John Rogers and the Rev. Julian Campbell.
Archbishop of Canterbury
The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby was due in Barbados yesterday. Today, at 5:30 p.m., the archbishop will meet with clergy at the Ivan Harewood Centre, Christ Church Parish Church. At the same time Mrs Welby will meet with clergy wives. There will be a Eucharist at 7 p.m. at the Christ Church Parish Church. Archbishop Welby will be the chief celebrant and preacher. All are invited.
An Awesome Evening
There will be An Awesome Evening Of Beautiful Music by internationally acclaimed organist Hector Olivera at the St Catherine’s Church, Ruby, St Philip under the patronage of Prime Minister Fruendel Stuart on Sunday at 6 p.m.

The new suffragan Bishop of York in the Diocese of Toronto, Peter Fenty, is in Barbados on holiday. He arrived on Wednesday. This column wishes Bishop Fenty and his wife Angela a restful holiday.
