STUDENTS with at least a grade 3 in the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate’s mathematics and English examinations now have an easier procedure for entry to the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic (SJPP).
This is due to the institution’s decision to allow such students to bypass their entrance examination.
In an interview at the Wildey, St Michael institution, registrar Julie Martindale told the DAILY NATION that this year those students would go straight to the interview stage in an effort to encourage them to focus more on those core subjects.
“We find those with CXCs tend to do better in the entrance exam anyway; so this year we decided those with CXC English and mathematics from Grades 1 to 3 would not have to take the exam. This was done as a way to encourage students to make sure they achieve those subjects should they apply to study here,” she said. (CA)
