I am totally lost for words and I don’t know what I want to say. I have nothing planned; I have no topic to speak on but I know I must say something. The challenge is, I don’t know what to say; my mind is totally blank.
This may seem very strange to you but I am just going to keep typing and we will both see where this goes. Lord, please guide my hands as I type and I pray that someone is blessed and inspired by what I may write. I have nothing at all planned so I am typing by faith. Your word says without faith it is impossible to please you, so at the end of this article I do hope you are pleased.
Why is the world the way it is? Why is it that so many of us are so unhappy, unfulfilled and incomplete? Why is it that no matter how much money we make, we are never satisfied? Why is it that even though we may be granted all our desires and wants, we are still not satisfied? Why is it that nothing in this world truly satisfies us?
Think about it. We earnestly desire things and when we get them, we are still not satisfied. We desire to clear our debts or reach a certain salary scale or push to get a promotion or complete a degree or reach a desired weight or visit a particular country, and after achieving all of this, within a short time, we want something else.
Could it be that there is something much greater and more powerful than the desires of the heart? Why is it that in making most decisions we depend on what our heart is saying? Could it be that our hearts deceive us and potentially lead us to making the wrong choices?
Could it be that our hearts influence our distasteful attitudes and perceptions? What about our negative speech, sinful anger and ungodly thoughts and actions? Could these all be under the influence of the heart?
The heart and emotions tend to operate together and, as a result, most of us make our decisions based on their influence. How is it that when your wife makes you feel good and makes your heart flutter with joy, you tell her sweet things and do nice things for her, and within the same day when she makes you angry and make your heart flutter with rage you beat and abuse her? It’s due to the influence of the heart and how you feel.
How is it that you can rise in the early morning and prepare breakfast for your husband, iron his clothes and express appreciation for him but when you feel sexually aroused during the day, you go and sleep with another man? It’s due to the influence of the heart and how you feel.
Why is it that so many of us react in verbal and physical aggression when offended or hurt? Why is it that we curse and fight each other so easily? Why is it that we steal from and deceive each other? Why is it that we thrive on retaliation and revenge and tit for tat? It’s all because we act based on how we feel at the time and the influence of the heart.
The mind, heart and soul are three powerful sources of energy and life but the soul is the greatest of them all. This is why unlike the other two, it can’t be destroyed by man.
Our decisions, actions and perceptions should not be primarily based on how we feel at the time but based on the fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control which are all produced within a righteous soul.
The soul is eternal while the heart and mind are only temporal. That’s why no matter how you try to satisfy your heart’s desires you always want more and more. Your soul’s desires will always be greater than your hearts and the desire of the soul is to be filled. The question is: Who will fill yours?
Life has many choices; eternity only has two; salvation or damnation. The choice is up to you.
