Drugs and gun found on cargo vessel

A JOINT OPERATION has netted illegal drugs and a submachine pistol.
A release from the police indicated that a search was carried out on a cargo vessel which arrived in Barbados from Guyana last night, and as a result, 107 packages of cannabis weighing 101.02 kilograms, 20.6 kgs of cocaine and one submachine pistol were found and seized.
The operation was carried out by members of the Police Drug Squad, the Enforcement Unit of the Barbados Customs and Excise Department and the Barbados Coast Guard.
Eight crew members have been detained to assist with investigations. (PR)
