$1b water plan in the works
Barbados will be working with Canada to roll-out a more than $1 billion water and wastewater management infrastructure programme over the next few years.
It should mean more consistent monthly water bills.
Minister of Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Water Resource Management Dr David Estwick said yesterday that Cabinet had given its approval for the ministry to work with the Canadian government on several projects, including the Smart Meter Project, the construction of the reverse osmosis plant and the West Coast Sewerage Project.
He was speaking at the Canadian High Commission where contracts were signed to finalize the Smart Meter Project. Chairman of the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) Dr Atlee Brathwaite also signed a $116 million strategic contract with the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) for the start of the project, which will see the roll-out of almost 100 000 meters across the island.
