WITH THE POSTPONEMENT of Rihanna’s November 1 Diamonds World Tour concert, this is as good a time as any for Barbados to work on giving the international singer a better deal in terms of marketing and recognition.
Veteran entertainer/ show promoter Richard Stoute made this point yesterday as others in his line of work voiced disappointment about the postponement of the concert until next year.
“Rihanna is the biggest thing in the world in terms of her performances but it [her treatment] makes me wonder if we appreciate our own,” he told the Saturday Sun yesterday.
“People travelling all through Europe come across billboards with Rihanna but there are none in Barbados. You don’t find them on Broad Street or at the airport. We have lost out in our marketing and appreciation of her. We need to show the world we care about her, that we care about our own.”
Bandleader and promoter Chetwyn Stewart described the postponement of the concert as “unfortunate but understandable”.
