SOCIAL SCENE: The Nation says thanks
It was a birthday celebration for key people who supported the baby that is now the 40-year-old Nation Publishing Company, and the guests of honour shared a delightful evening of reflection over cocktails.
The spotlight at the George Washington House reception last week was on advertisers who have supported THE NATION newspaper from its inception. Mingling with them were members of the Nation’s advertising team headed by Advertising Manager Paulette Jones, Head of Marketing and Communications Valerie Hope, and director Wilfred Field, the face many of the advertising agencies and business houses would have seen in the early years of the newspaper.
Stephen Brathwaite, first advertising manager and a director who was part of the vision that gave birth to THE NATION reminisced with fellow director and another one of the founders, Gordon Brooks.
“Your confidence and trust has helped us to deliver on the vision articulated on Page 4 of our first edition – “We are small but we hope to make a big contribution”, director Hilford Murrell said while addressing the guests.
