Occasional bowler?Matthew King delivered a precious “dot-ball” with three runs required from two balls to haul YMPC from a near hopeless position and a share of the spoils with the Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme (BDFSP) as the two teams played out an enthralling tie yesterday.
A typically, swashbuckling century by renowned Twenty20 specialist Dwayne Smith propelled YMPC to a handy 246 in 47.5 overs but Dominican Tyrone Theophile, with a more measured, unbeaten ton, just failed to lift the home team to the stiff target.
The 24-year-old Theophile, who faced 145 balls, watched from the non-striker’s end as Renaldo Griffith missed an attempted drive to the penultimate delivery of the match and then could only manage a couple runs off the last ball.
He had earlier posted his coveted century off 134 balls with seven fours and two sixes being his main scoring shots.
The match took a final intriguing twist when a sharp shower interrupted BDFSP’s run-chase with the final over left and eight runs required.
Smith, returning to the YMPC side, belted seven fours and half dozen sixes in racing to 100 from 59 balls before he was dismissed in the 21st over for 117, adding two more sixes and a four and facing 67 balls altogether.
West Indies Women leg-spinner Shaquana Quintyne, in her first knock in local, senior-level cricket  comfortably acquitted herself, making 19 off 36 balls in the face of hostile bowling by West Indies prospect Miguel Cummins.
She even opened her slender shoulders to smite consecutive boundaries down the ground off Griffith’s medium pace during.
