Bishop: Still good news
Anglican Bishop Dr John Holder has urged Christians to be bearers of good news even as the country is swamped by a flood of bad news at Christmas time.
In his sermon yesterday at St Michael’s Cathedral, he told the congregation that the “Good News story” was not about the birth of a baby 2 000 years ago.
“It is also about how we cope in our time with the challenges that seem to destroy good news. It is about how we will cope in the New Year, given all bad news that we are receiving.”
Holder said it was important for people to have confidence that God would continue to be our support and not let doubt creep into their minds – and neither must they lose hope. (ES)
