AG: Former cons in need of help
Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite wants families of former offenders to give more support to these men and women after they leave prison.
He said reintegration into the society was a major problem for the former prisoners whose families often accommodated them for a while following their release, but later threw them out on the streets.
He appealed to loved ones to be more accommodating, saying: “They need our support more than ever when they come back out into a society and have the challenges of being reintegrated.”
Speaking during Tuesday’s debate in the House of Assembly on a supplementary resolution for $1.8 million, part of which will be used for the prison services and the Girls’ and Boys’ Industrial Schools, Brathwaite said inmate rehabilitation and academic development would be priorities.
