Transport Board workers get dismissal letters

WORKERS OF THE Transport Board  began receiving their dismissal letters today at the Weymouth, St Michael headquarters.
Reports indicate that approximately 250 employees are to be given walking papers.
When a NATION team visited the Transport Board this morning, it seemed to be business as usual with buses coming and going, with serveral small groups of people in the yard.
By 11 a.m., a few people started to receive their papers, and the numbers gradually increased. Among those going home were workers who opted for voluntary separation.
Most people seemed resigned to what was happening.
One of the most heart-wrenching scenes was a clerk who started crying and hugging others. She had to be comforted by another colleague.
More letters will be issued during the course of the day.
The Barbados Workers Union indicated last night that they were preparing to respond to this development.
