‘Market for stolen stock’
CONSTRUCTION MAGNATE AND?beef and dairy farmer Sir Charles “COW” Williams has accused some restaurants of supporting the praedial larceny racket in Barbados.
His comments were in reaction to Magistrate Douglas Frederick’s comments on Tuesday that the judicial system had to pay particular attention to the cries of farmers who had become victims of theft of produce and livestock.
“It’s a business and there are people in Barbados operating restaurants that are taking that meat other than what goes through the abattoir,” Sir Charles said yesterday.
He also took issue with the sentencing of those convicted of praedial larceny and said in most cases guilty people usually got a “slap on the wrist.”
