GLENFORD DEFREITAS and Daana Linton took the top spot at the Wildey Gymnasium on Saturday night with some creative choreography at the Jahbulani Strictly Latin 2014 Dance Competition.
The five-hour event saw the duo pulling out the stops to do a clean sweep of the Adult Open and Adult Advanced categories, beating closest rivals Kamar Beckles and Keisha Cordieu.
Linton was back after a three-year hiatus from the Latin dance floor and this was the first time she was dancing with DeFreitas, whose regular partner was Shelly Ann Alleyne.
Linton is a confident and sensual dancer, matching DeFreitas’ exhuberant and flashy movements. The couple perfected the cha cha, samba, rumba, paso doble and jive in the Advanced category to secure the judges’ favour over Beckles and Cordieu and newcovers to the category, Romario Bates and Tiffini Lynch.
The couple came back to shimmy, strut, split, lift and kick their way into first place in the Adult Open, doing four dances. There were five other couples in this category.
