Kite flyers are being invited to learn how to safely take part in the activity this Easter season.
The Department of Emergency Management in partnership with the Barbados Light & Power Company, will make two presentations on kite flying safety.
The first takes place on Thursday, in The St Michael School’s auditorium, Martindales Road, St Michael, while the second one will be held in the Princess Margaret Secondary School auditorium, Six Roads, St Philip, on Tuesday, April 15. Both sessions begin at 6:30 p.m.
The presentations are designed to heighten awareness about the dangers of flying kites near power lines and to promote the importance of safety and safe habits in the community.
During the sessions, participants will learn about how electricity is transmitted through the power lines; the dangers associated with power lines and kites; the effects of unsafe kite flying practices on the reliability of the electricity supply, and the benefits of safety when dealing with electricity.
A special invitation is extended to members of the District Emergency Organisations. (BGIS)
