AG: Make wise choices

STAY POSITIVE, remember the lessons taught, be contented, and most importantly, choose friends wisely!
These were some of the words of wisdom Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite, gave to students about to embark on their secondary school journey. He was speaking at the annual In the Winners’ Circle – Making the Right Choice workshop hosted by the National Task Force on Crime Prevention at New Dimension Ministries today.
Brathwaite told the students that one of the most significant things in their transition from primary to secondary school would be in meeting new children.
“This is a period where you will have life friendships. You don’t choose your family…but you choose your friends, and in many ways that is one of the most difficult and most serious decisions that you would have to make in your lifetime. Who is your friend and how do you identify your true friends?” he advised.
Brathwaite, also Minister of Home Affairs, noted that one of the challenges children faced during the transition period was in meeting a friend who had the right qualities. However, he urged them to gravitate towards positive students from whom they could learn and who could impart knowledge.
During his talk, the Minister also implored the children to be contented with what they possessed, and not to allow themselves to be distracted by the latest technology which other students may bring to school.
“…Do not make the mistake of taking away something that is not yours. Be contented with whatever your mother and father provide you with. Do not envy people for their resources,” he urged.
Brathwaite also stressed the importance of the students maintaining an involvement in the Church and in extra curricula activities such as sports, cadets and scouts. “Get involved, it will build your character,” he stressed.
