EIGHT THOUSAND. That’s the number of asthma cases seen each year at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), according to Dr Chaynie Williams, head of Accident & Emergency (A&E).
Williams made this startling revelation after receiving a $6 000 donation for the hospital’s asthma bay from the Insurance Corporation of Barbados Limited (ICBL) yesterday.
Kleone Charles, marketing and communications assistant at ICBL, presented the cheque which represented part of the proceeds of the registration from last month’s ICBL Fun Walk & Run, in which 200 staff from the QEH participated.
Williams, who was among the participants, thanked ICBL and assured them that the funds would be well spent because of the ever-increasing need for equipment on the asthma bay.
