Police eyeing sea egg poachers
POLICE WILL BE stepping up their vigilance surrounding the poaching of sea eggs after carrying out an operation at Bath, St John yesterday.
Public relations officer Inspector David Welch said members of the Marine Unit, supported by the Barbados Coast Guard, encountered a man during the anti-poaching operation.
He escaped leaving nine polythene bags containing 703 sea eggs and a number of sea egg fishing implements.
Welch said a marine biologist from the Ministry of Fisheries was contacted and identified the sea eggs as being young.
As investigations continue, police are asking anyone with knowledge of this type of activity to call emergency number 211. (PR/NB)
