Traffic changes for World Environment Day
MEMBERS OF THE public are reminded that there will be a number of traffic changes in effect for World Environment Day which will be celebrated tomorrow.
The junction at Jemmotts Lane and Bay Street, St. Michael, will be closed between 8 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Traffic heading into Bridgetown will be diverted from Hastings, Christ Church, to the Garrison. In addition, High Street and Rickett Street, The City will be closed.These road closures are to facilitate Barbados’ hosting of a global cultural event in The City on that day. Parking will be provided for Ministers and members of the Diplomatic Corps on the grounds of Parliament, while invited guests will use Queen’s Park or the Barbados Tourism Investment Incorporated’s car park. A shuttle service will be provided from Queen’s Park.
Motorists are asked to comply with the uniformed personnel from the Royal Barbados Police Force.
School children, public and private sector workers across Barbados are being encouraged to wear green T-shirts, green ribbons or green articles of clothing in celebration of the day as Barbados hosts the global event.Environmental education officer in the Ministry of the Environment and Drainage Donna King-Brathwaite said that all those who wear green on World Environment Day will be demonstrating their commitment to environmental stewardship.
