MAVIS BECKLES: Ain’t thinkin’ ’bout nutten

Evah suh often nowadays somebody does come up tuh ya and ask you wha’ you think ’bout this or wha’ you think ’bout the next, and tuh be truthful, most o’ the times it does be something political, given the way how things going nowadays.
But anyway, evahbody know dat I doan get myself involved in nuh kinda politics at all, especially the kinda politics and the kinda politicians dat duh got stirring now.
?When it come tuh the politics and the things dat the politicians doing or not doing, I just doan get caught up in it. First of all, nuh matter what I feel or think, it ain’t important and it ain’t gine change nutten anyway.
Ya see, like um or lump um, at the end o’ the day, the politicians gine still do what the France duh want tuh do, behave the way duh want tuh behave, say or not say wha’ duh want tuh say, fly all ’bout the place when duh feel like . . . at my expense. Then at the end o’ the day, duh gine guh ’long home, get in duh bed, cock up duh two foot and guh ’long tuh sleep like a baby while I stressed out all the time. Ovah who? Dem? Error!
??Free will
??Another one is this: wha’ you think bout we Ambassador Rihanna walking on pon the people stage, in front o’ the whole world, glamorously naked? I had tuh tell a fella the other day dat Rihanna got she life tuh live and if she choose tuh live it this way, who is me tuh judge she? I had tuh remind him dat the great Almighty God made all o’ we and then turn around and give us free will.
So Ambassador or nuh ambassador, she living she life tuh suit sheself and it is up tuh wunna tuh stop there and watch she. That is how I feel – I ain’t watching she.
I had a young fella doing some work here by me a couple weeks ago. He was one o’ the lifeguards dat get sent home and he decided dat he ain’t stan’ning home day in and day out doing nutten and waiting around fuh money tuh fall from the sky.
He say it ain’t gine happen so as he still got a few other skills, in order tuh get a few dollar bills in he pocket, as well as get something tuh eat when the week come, he decided tuh do something wid he hands.
So when people ask me wha’ I think ’bout the lifeguards who get laid off, I think duh should do like this young fella, find something else tuh do.
Now this is a big one. I ain’t nuh economist and I ain’t know too much ’bout all the big technical kinda language dat the boys wid the big brains does use. What I gather from reading ’bout this downgrade is that we owe way a lot o’ money and we ain’t got none tuh pay it back and dat we got real nuff interest tuh pay when the year come. I also gather dat, given the state dat we find weselves in, duh say dat we ain’t gine be able tuh attract nuh new investors in a hurry.
??People freakin’ out
??So wha’ we gine do? From the time some people read ’bout the triple downgrade from dem Moody people who duh say is putting Barbados three more notches down the ladder, some people start tuh freak out and get on like duh gine be homeless or somebody gine lift up the whole island and carry it ’long wid dem.
Some people getting on like the world gine come tuh a end and some people blaming this body and dat body and evahbody washing duh mouts pon we evah chance duh get.
It look tuh me like some people out there only too glad tuh see Barbados in this sort o’ position. But dat is alright. We down but we ain’t out and we is a resilient people. So who is Moody anyway? Long after Moody and despite all dat is happening or not happening, we will rise above this.
