Christ Church Carnival: The Bands 2

Date:

Share post:

A look at the bands Swerve, Pressure Point and Masqueraded Fantasies.
Name of Band: Swerve
Band Leaders: Jason Bourne, Shawn Gittens, Fabian Welch
Design Concept/Theme: The concept came from trying to promote confidence, sexiness, and no stereotypes.
No. of people in the band: Approximately 50
What can Christ Church Carnival do for the community and Crop Over?: The community can have the opportunity to see and be part of something big, and the event can definitely be big if it is properly managed.
Why did you participate?:  We love that it is similar to the Foreday concept.

Name of Band: Pressure Point
Band Leader: Corey Gale-Forde
Design concept/Theme: We Ballin’. World Cup Football starts in June, so we are celebrating the football teams in Christ Church – Paradise, Silver Sands, Gall Hill.
No. of people in the band: Approximately 150 persons
What can Christ Church Carnival do for the community and Crop Over?: The NCF wanted to bring Crop Over to the community and we were ready to launch Christ Church Carnival. It will also provide an opportunity for vendors to make some money and to artistes in Christ Church to get some exposure.
I think it will bring out some people who love Crop Over, but wouldn’t go to Fore Day Morning or the Big jump up on Spring Garden. It is bringing Crop Over to the people.
Why did you participate?:  I am a regular in St Philip Carnival with the band Meltdown. This was the plan, to have a band in St Philip Carnival to see what it entails before bringing the concept to Christ Church.

Name of Band: Masqueraded Fantasies
Band Leader: Dominus PHD
Design concept/Theme:  When you see someone on the street, you can’t tell if they have an STD or HIV.
No. of people in the band: Unknown
What can Christ Church Carnival do for the community and Crop Over?: It could be the start of the whole festival. Foreday has arguably become the peak because more people look forward to Foreday than Crop Over. Once marketed properly, it can be a preview to the jump up, a teaser.
Why did you participate?:  If promoted properly and pushed, it can have positive effects and can be the start of that community feeling in Crop Over. There are no more Cavalcades going from parish to parish, so there is a feeling that Crop Over is not in the community anymore.
