THE RESURGENCE of Ellerslie basketball has come full circle.
Add the under-16 title to their tally now, as MVP Jamali Holder capped the Black Rock side’s unbeaten tournament run by leading Ellerslie to a 46-28 victory over Harrison College in Tuesday’s final of the Co-operators General Insurance tournament.
Playing at the Wildey Gym, Holder finished with a game-high 13 points to go along with numerous blocks, rebounds and assists in what was truly a MVP-winning performance.
The game was closer than the score suggested though, with Joniton Fowler scoring back-to-back buckets to pull Kolij within five points (31-26) with just under five minutes to play.
But Holder quickly responded with a free throw and lay-up to spark a furious 15-2 Ellerslie finish to the contest.
Delano Watson added ten points for Ellerslie while Fowler led Harrison College with ten as well.
The championship comes two seasons after Ellerslie won the Under-19 crown to end a 17-year title drought. (JM)
