Mottley: More pain for laid off workers
STARTING TODAY, Barbadians will feel more of the painful impact of Government’s job-cutting programme across the public sector.
Leader of the Opposition Mia Mottley made this prediction Sunday night, saying that unemployment benefits for former employees of the Drainage Unit were about to run out and month by month other retrenched workers would find themselves in a similar position.
Among these she listed Ministry of Transport and Works, Barbados Transport Board and School Meals Department former employees.
She complained that Government had done nothing to help these and other people who were likely to have “no independent means of income” when their unemployment benefits finished after 26 weeks.
