An appeal has been made to Barbadians to make better plans for their retirement.
Ed Bushell, president of the Barbados Asssociation of Retired Persons (BARP), said yesterday that it was important that people looked beyond the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) for their retirement benefits.
“People wait too late to plan for retirement or don’t plan adequately; some look to NIS to cover them,” he said.
He added that “invariably the NIS will not cover needs” and pointed to the importance of having a private pension.
Bushell’s comments were made yesterday as he spoke about BARP’s Personal Assistance Fund appeal for which the organisation is soliciting donations in an effort to make a difference in someone’s life. (ES)
