Quick fix ‘not enough’

Thank you for pledging the money, but you don’t appreciate the gravity of the situation.
That, essentially, was the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners’ (BAMP) reaction yesterday to Government’s move to inject $22 million in response to their plea for a swift resolution to the critical shortages of supplies affecting the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).
“While they were unable to directly acknowledge the depth of the current crisis, we are pleased that the Government has recognised the pressing need to purchase supplies and has promised much-needed funds,” said the association in a statement signed by acting public relations officer Dr Joseph Herbert.
“As the Prime Minister so verbosely outlined [on Tuesday], shortages at the QEH are not new.” (SP)
