Hoping for UWI grants
THERE?WAS a sense of quiet optimism among undergraduates as they trekked yesterday to the Ministry of Education to collect application forms as a first step in being considered for a grant to offset tuition fees for studies at the University of the West Indies.
To be considered for the bursaries, applications must include a completed form, a certified birth or citizen certificate, a salary slip, where applicable, retrenchment letter and information on any loan or financial assistance to assist in the payment of the UWI tuition fee.
Raheem Jones, a 21-year-old who is pursuing mathematics and chemistry, is hoping that things will turn out in his favour.
“I feel good at an opportunity to get a bursary,” said 18-year-old computer science student Dominic Thompson. “Paying the fees on my own is kind of difficult and I am glad the Government could provide some assistance.”
