Bajans told to pay tax
Pay the solid waste tax! The Government greatly needs the revenue.
That is the advice from historian Dr Henderson Carter amidst the cry of thousands of Barbadians that the tax is unfair.
“I believe that we should pay the solid waste tax and I believe that because the Government wants revenue . . . I would rather pay that tax than to have our currency devalued and my money which is in the bank worth nothing . . . so I rather pay the $200 or the $300,” Carter told those in attendance during the National Library Service’s public lecture on Monday night.
But at the same time, Carter, a lecturer at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, frowned on the recent move by Massy Holdings.
He said while the solid waste tax had caused much discussion, the rebranding of long-standing Barbadian business names by Massy Holdings was much more deserving of attention. (RB)
