A YOUNGSTER WHO THOUGHT he would rob a bank this morning chose the wrong one when he entered the Royal Bank of Canada’s (RBC) University Drive branch at Black Rock, St Michael around 10:25.
Two alert customers, one inside the bank who witnessed the crime and the other, Samuel Waithe on the outside, who saw bank robber as he ripped off the mask he was wearing, both gave chase and about 15 minutes later the robber was pinned to the ground in nearby Batts Rock where police quickly put an end to the episode.
The young bank robber who was armed with a cutlass and had the stolen cash in his haversack is in police custody but his identity is yet to be revealed.
Lionel Ward, Inspector in charge of crime at the Black Rock Police Station told the NATION the robbery appeared to be a crime of opportunity. Ward also thanked the citizens for their swift action which helped lawmen to solve the bank robbery within minutes. (GE)
