Man shot by police

A MAN WAS shot by police early this morning during a drug eradication exercise in St John.

According public relations officer Inspector David Welch, members of the Drug Squad and Special Services Unit were conducting an operation in the Cliff, Cottage and Colleton communities about 5:30 a.m.

During the operation, a man armed with a cutlass allegedly attacked one of the officers. He was shot in his left calf and transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance where he is currently under guard. 

A total of 816 cannabis plants were found under cultivation in several plots hidden in bushy areas; the tallest being 11 feet.  

Investigations are continuing. (PR/NB)
