TONI MOORE WAS MOMENTS AGO elected as the new general secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU).

In defeating Veronica Griffith 99 votes to 70, Moore, 38, became the first woman to head Barbados’ biggest trade union.

She will officially take up the reins of duty when the union concludes its annual general conference next Saturday at Solidarity House. The BWU is currently holding the 73rd delegates’ conference.

Sir Roy Trotman is the outgoing general secretary.
