UPDATED: Light & Power severs employees
A number of employees from the Barbados Light & Power Co. Ltd were given their walking papers this morning.
The NATION has been reliably informed they comprise engineers and supervisors from different departments.
Employees were dismissed from the Bay Street, St Michael plant and Spring Garden as well.
In a press release, The Barbados Light & Power Co. Ltd said it was “existing in challenging economic times” and needed to “evolve and remain ready to support Barbados and its customers”.
“Today, the Company took a difficult step in a process of restructuring its operations. Specific roles within Departments were eliminated, resulting in employee redundancies. Those employees affected were advised in one-on-one meetings this morning, and were treated fairly. Each would receive fair remuneration and support to assist them as they move forward.
“Job losses are never easy, but the elimination of these positions was a necessary step in moving Light & Power to more efficient operations to the benefit of its customers and stakeholders.”
The company also thanked the impacted employees for their service, some of whom The NATION understands were there for more than 30 years. (MB/PR)
