NIFCA’s bright spark
The National Independence Festival of Creative Arts does it all the time. Every year some bright spark comes to the fore and wins the hearts of everyone with their bravery and authentic Bajan personality.
This year, seven-year-old Tahirah Gibbons seems to be that one and she sure laid claim to the distinction when she brought the entire Combermere School Hall to its feet with Tribute To Vi, a piece in which she convinced everyone that when she grows up, she wants “to be hawker”.
The presentation delivered in the category of Speech was even more forceful because it spoke to the importance the hawker played and continues to play in the Barbadian economy and social development.
