Dear Christine,

I am 14 years old and I have two boyfriends.

The first one I met is very attractive. He is also kind and loves me very much. The other one is also kind but he speaks roughly and is very nervous and shy when he is around me.

I am certain that both of them love me, but I do not know which one to choose.

Dear P.P.,

I’m trying to figure out what’s the concern about choosing one of these guys.

What are you going to do after you’ve chosen one of them?

Are you thinking about starting a physical relationship? I certainly hope not!

At 14, I don’t think you should be worrying about making a decision to choose a steady boyfriend. It would be a miracle if it did more than get you into serious trouble at such a young age.

Why not just be friends with both boys and others who will undoubtedly come your way?

I know very well it is a temptation to have a boyfriend, especially when you look around and see a lot of other young girls with boyfriends (supposedly of their own).

However, if you look long enough you will see a lot of those young girls becoming mothers before they are quite ready.

Take time to concentrate on your education. You will need this for your future development and to help put you on the path of independence and financial security.

Also, choose your friends wisely. Guys who are messing around with young girls at the age of 14 are not looking for commitment of any kind; they will take whatever you offer them, wipe their mouths clean, then look elsewhere for further self-gratification.

If you’re looking for love from either of these guys, you will be very disappointed.

Heartache and pain are what you’re likely to get.
