ALTAR CALL: Minister takes message to Dodds

There is wonder-working power in the blood of Jesus.

This was the message conveyed to male inmates of Her Majesty’s Prison Dodds, two Sundays ago, by Minister Evelyn Moore.

She told the inmates “Jesus’ blood makes the perfect atonement for the soul” and without the shedding of His blood on Calvary, there would be no atonement for sin.

As she explained the importance of blood to the human body, she stressed without Jesus’ blood “the Gospel is dead and we are deprived of eternal life”.

“The blood is spoken of 427 times in our Bible, so we see how important it is. Blood is essential to the human body but the blood of Jesus is essential to giving us spiritual life. As He flows through us, He washes us clean and takes from us that which would destroy our spiritual life,” Moore said.

She listed three important functions of the blood of Jesus; namely that of establishing a new covenant and reminding us of the huge sacrifice Jesus paid on the Cross; the blood’s ability to purify, and to redeem us from the slavery of sin.

She told her attentive listeners the Old Covenant with the physical seed of Abraham was replaced with the establishment of the New Covenant with the spiritual seed. She also explained that under the Old Covenant the people of Israel had to obey all the laws and statutes of God. That covenant, she said, was then ratified with the blood of animals, which became “the blood of the covenant. This blood, she pointed out, “signified the death that would be required of every person who broke the covenant”.

On the other hand, Moore said under the New Covenant, Jesus’ blood was shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins [Matthew 26:28].

“Since all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, we are now justified by His grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a mercy seat by His blood, effective through faith.

“He said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. [Mark 14:24].

“Through His death, Jesus ratified the New Covenant, which enables every sinner who repents to receive forgiveness of sin and the gift of eternal life. The New Covenant was sealed with the blood of Jesus Christ, “the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world”, Moore preached.

She added that mankind was ransomed from the futile ways inherited by our ancestors, not with perishable things like silver and gold, but with the precious blood of Jesus.”

“Jesus’ blood paid a ransom to the devil who held humanity hostage ever since Adam and Eve [sinned], but the captor, Satan, had to release the captive – God’s people.”

Moore also said that with the shedding of Jesus’ blood “mankind now has the right to be kingdom citizens, with Jesus as the High Priest.”

She reiterated: “We no longer have to sacrifice animals for the forgiveness of sin. Jesus is the sacrificed Lamb.

“I leave with you the words of a very famous song:

“What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the Blood of Jesus. What can make me whole again? Nothing but the Blood of Jesus. Oh, precious is the flow. That makes me white as snow. No other fount I know. Nothing but the Blood of Jesus!”

Inmates later held hands and prayed for each other. They were encouraged not to look back but to focus on the power in the blood of Jesus to break every chain and to remove doubts and fear.

They were also encouraged to cry out to the all-powerful God in the midnight hour, since “He is able” to turn their situations around.
