From The Archives: Chaos at travel agencies as AA strike continues
BARBADOS’ TOURIST AND TRAVEL industries were in a tail-spin yesterday – the second day of the American Airlines strike.
A random check revealed mass confusion as agents tried to switch carriers for stranded passengers. Most flights were full.
Sources said AA had entered a special “interline” agreement with most international carriers to accommodate passengers on a priority basis.
The source said thousands of people are stranded in New York, Miami and San Juan, as well as Barbados.
The Barbados Tourism Authority is said to be making arrangements with BWIA to operate the New York/Barbados route, and add charters to and from Miami.
