Out of 189 nations, Barbados’ economy is performing among the eight worst in the world, some of which are in war zones.

Opposition Barbados Labour Party leader Mia Mottley, who made the charge yesterday, suggested that the only way for Barbados to reverse this drastic situation was to “defreundalise”, a reference to Prime Minister Freundel Stuart.

Mottley made the comments while addressing the November business luncheon of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) at Hilton Barbados.

She told the packed audience that according to the World Economic Outlook for October 2014, published by the IMF, the only countries projected to perform worse than Barbados in 2014 were Libya, Iraq, Syria, Ukraine, Equatorial Guinea, Argentina and Cyprus, the majority of which were war-stricken.
