White Hill families to move

The road at White Hill, St Andrew, has become so dangerous that it will be abandoned.

That was the assessment yesterday of Minister of Transport and Works Michael Lashley, when he toured the district where the road collapsed last Saturday and deteriorated further every day since.

A huge chunk broke away Tuesday night making the road totally impassable and forcing parents to keep their children away from school yesterday.

Lashley said he would speak to the Ministry of Housing regarding the relocation of more than 50 affected families.

“My view is the Ministry of Transport and Public Works, along with the Ministry of Housing and Lands, would have to deal with this matter very urgently . . . . We have to do an assessment on the cost of this road but for the safety of the public we have to abandon this road and immediate measures would have to be put in place to resite the residents.”
