‘Venom’ kills them off
Playing with the heart of a lion and the focus of a true champion, Mark “Venom” Griffith silenced thousands and toppled their giant Antoine “Lil Man” Daniel to retain the Massy United Insurance Clash of the Titans road tennis crown at the Villages at Coverley on Sunday night.
Not even a two-hour rain delay could stop Griffith from making his most impressive bite yet.
The number one seed was superior in every facet of the match to “live in” Daniel’s backhand, thus denying him his attacking game while using his supreme fitness to touch and return every ball so that he could win the match 22-20, 21-12, 16-21, 21-17 and an early Christmas gift of $12 000.
In the original clash of the Titans, Perseus used Medusa’s severed head to turn the feared Kraken monster to stone but on Independence night the hero Griffith used a wooden paddle to paralyse his nemesis Daniel and deny his supporters their chance to celebrate the expected wide and deadly repertoire of shots.
