Barbados’ health and tourism authorities have joined forces to fight chikungunya.

The Ministry of Health has issued a travel advisory telling tourists coming here what’s being done to eradicate the mosquito-borne virus, and how they can protect themselves from it.

The recently established Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. and the Barbados Tourism Product Authority, along with the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA), are on board. Training courses and workshops were held for hotel staff to sensitise them on how best to eradicate mosquitoes from their properties and homes, while hotels are providing guests with information, mosquito repellents and placing anti-pest devices in rooms to halt the spread of the virus.
