BHTA: Duty-free fear unfounded
It is unlikely hotels will import food and beverage items duty-free, though they have the right to do so.
This assurance was given by Sunil Chatrani, president of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA), in the wake of local wholesalers’ fears over how the duty-free concessions granted to qualifying hotels and restaurants will be implemented to ensure they can continue servicing this sector.
So fearful are the wholesalers that they are calling on Government to police the duty-free concessions to import food and beverage (F&B) items by hoteliers, or risk business failures and job losses among them.
