Speaker in, we’re out!
WE WILL NOT be in the House as long as Speaker Michael Carrington takes the Chair!
This is the emphatic declaration from Opposition Leader Mia Mottley as she led a walkout of her parliamentary colleagues from the Lower Chamber yesterday.
Mottley said the Opposition was urging Carrington to recuse himself from the Chair until his matter, referred to the Committee of Privileges, was heard.
However, Prime Minister Freundel Stuart rose to stoutly defend the embattled Speaker.
Carrington, a Queen’s Counsel, had a High Court judgment, relating to withholding almost a quarter of a million dollars of a client’s funds, entered against him.
