Teamwork ‘is key’

AT A TIME when disputes between principals and teachers are souring industrial relations, a teacher training executive has been highlighting the value of collaborative leadership.

The principal of the Erdiston Teacher’s Training College, Barbara Parris, delivering her report at the colleges’ graduation ceremony on Saturday at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, said one of the most important qualities of good leadership was the ability to listen.

george-bushellSpeaking to the 187 graduates, Parris told them it was imperative to realise that a leader could not function independently.

“You also need to be aware that the traditional ‘top down’ model . . . where only the administration’s perspective is important – in administering the organisation is no longer plausible,” she said.  (SDB Media)
