CLASS WAS CALLED at St Elizabeth Primary School at 11 a.m. today after a meeting with Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) officials and the principal Ingrid Prescod.

Earlier in the morning the students and teachers congregated at the nearby St Elizabeth Resource Centre while the meeting proceeded.  The talks stemmed from the refusal of teachers to go into the classroom because of concerns of rat infestation at the school.

Following the meeting president of the BUT Pedro Shepherd said the infants block where there was evidence of rodent droppings was condemned but the junior block on the northern side of the school was deemed fit for classes.

Shepherd said the BUT would its recommendations to the Ministry of Education that the infant block be industrially cleaned before the students and teachers return. (LK)
