Seeing more female addicts
THOUGH YOUNGER DRUG ADDICTS are being seen, and more women are getting hooked, officials here insist they are not losing the fight against substance abuse.
In fact, they are claiming to have an international standards success rate. This position was made clear yesterday by officials of the Substance Abuse Foundation, the parent body for Verdun House in St John.
They said that Verdun House continues to reap success with its drug intervention and education programmes, despite some worrying trends.
“What is frightening is that there is a decrease in the age of our clients who are becoming addicted, plus we are noticing a rise in women becoming addicted,” said Pauline Tully, director at the foundation.
“The world is changing, there are so many different cocktails, but we have a great international standards success rate and we are going from strength to strength,” she added. (CA)
