Guards save man
A MAN’S LIFE was saved and two lifeguards were praised as heroes following a sea rescue at Heywoods, St Peter, yesterday.
Lifeguards Jason Gilkes and David Forde were on duty behind Almond Beach Resort around noon when they spotted a man – reportedly named Owen Babb – in trouble. The men sprinted into action, diving into the water and quickly reaching the struggling man.
“The guy was far out and by the way he was swimming, it was impossible for him to make it in on his own. We gathered our equipment and dashed across but it was harder than I thought [it would be],” said Gilkes.
