CAPTAIN Kraigg Brathwaite struck a half-century but Barbados Pride were kept in check by Leeward Islands Volcanoes on the first day of their fifth round WICB Professional Cricket League match today.

On a day that rain forced a few stoppages, Barbados Pride were limited to 182 for four from 90 overs after they were sent in.

Opener Brathwaite hit a patient 72 that stretched almost five hours before he was fourth out. He faced 232 balls and counted six fours.

Brathwaite and Kyle Corbin featured in a first wicket stand of 57 that was broken shortly after lunch when the latter was dismissed for 27.

Kirk Edwards (5) and Shai Hope (12) failed to get among the runs but at stumps, Roston Chase, who was on 28, and Shane Dowrich, on 27, had added 54 for the fifth wicket. (HG)
