BARBADOS’ BEST now has himself a career best. Top-ranked tennis pro Darian King continues to climb the ladder after reaching a new career high of No. 300 when the latest ATP world rankings were released last week.
It represents a jump of 14 places for the 22-year-old Bajan ace, who reached the second round of a Challenger event in Maui, Hawaii following a semi-final appearance at a clay tournament in the United States.
And this was after King suffered two first-round exits at a pair of Futures tournaments, also on American soil.
King’s current ranking tops his previous best of 302 achieved in July 2014 that came on the back of tournament wins at Futures events in Holland and Romania and a historic quarter-final appearance at the Binghampton Challenger in New York.
The move falls right in line with King’s initial plans for the 2015 season, which include getting up to around 250 in the world and making the qualifying rounds of grand slams at Roland Garros and Wimbledon. (JM)
