TEACHERS AT TWO SECONDARY SCHOOLS will be protesting today.
The DAILY NATION has learnt that teachers at Parkinson Memorial and Alma Parris, who are represented by the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT), will be out of the classroom for an undetermined period.
Following a meeting with 30-plus members from Parkinson last Thursday, a decision was taken to stage some form of protest. The plan is for the teachers at Parkinson to assemble at the school in The Pine, and leave for the BUT headquarters at Merryhill, also in St Michael, for a meeting before classes can begin.
Principal Jeff Broomes was reportedly made aware of the action and had enough time to put a contingency plan in place so that disruption at school is minimised, sources said. It is also understood that word of the action was also leaked to a top official at the Ministry of Education.
