THROUGHOUT ALL HIS UPS AND DOWNS – and there have been more downs than ups – Darren Sammy’s West Indian heart has been emblazoned on the maroon sleeve of the team’s uniform.

For four years, he was captain in all three formats, leading the West Indies to their euphoric triumph in the World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka in 2012, their first major title since the Champions Trophy in England in 2004.

Correctly interpreting the signs, he subsequently retired from Test cricket; only his Twenty20 leadership remains.cricket-world-cup-2015-logo
