10-MINUTE MANAGER: D’borah Blenman

Are you where you’ve always wanted to be?

I am where I eventually desired to be; owning and managing a beauty salon and pursuing a career in the makeup industry.

However, I am further than I ever imagined; I never thought I would own a business that services the Caribbean and a Kryolan Store in the United States of America.

What is your biggest professional challenge?

It has been particularly challenging sharing the vision of the business with others and receiving the commitment and support that is needed to realise the vision.

Sometimes, I jokingly think that the only way I can accomplish the mission is by cloning myself. Human resource is the most important resource, and also the most challenging.

What is your biggest life challenge?

Whilst I have been successful in business, it has been a lonely journey. Much of what I have accomplished is through sacrifice and an ever changing life, therefore few are able to understand or cope and hence unable to stand with me through the challenges and changes. This challenge has not hindered me, but has charted my life so that I remained focused on my destiny, and it has caused the establishing of  relationships with those few people who were meant to journey with me.

When you look to the future what do you see?

In the future I see the stability of all current businesses and open doors for expansion into other territories. I see clients, makeup artists and those who use Zotbelle services, receiving a more excellent service catering to all their beauty needs. Due to the training in makeup application, I see the standard being raised in this industry and opportunities for those who we train.

What is your favourite pastime?

Dancing. Ballroom and Latin.

What is your favourite meal?

Pasta, pasta, pasta.

On Saturday nights where are you likely to be?

In the kitchen prepping food for my Sunday meal.

What upsets you the most?

Poor service and the failure to seek to rectify the error.

What is your guiding philosophy?

I was created for a purpose and true success and joy is in the fulfilling of that same purpose.

If you had the chance to manage Barbados for a day, what would you do?

There is not much that can be done in one day when managing a country that would have an impact, except if we involve a greater power in our affairs.

I believe that righteousness exalts a nation and the submission to God the Creator in managing a country will yield tremendous success and solve many problems that we currently face.

Therefore, if given such an opportunity I would implement initiatives that would encourage the people, organisations, businesses, ministries, schools and so on of this nation to look to our Creator in prayer, praise and worship.

Results are guaranteed because God said that, “if my people, who are called by my name would humble themselves and pray and turn from their wicked ways, I (God) will hear from heaven and heal their land.”
